Surrender Your Burdens

Surrender Your Burdens

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

A life of ministry overall encompasses carrying other peoples burdens and holding hope for them. But, with our limited human perspective and ability, how can we carry other peoples burdens along with our own? The truth is, we can’t.

This scripture in Matthew 11 outlines the beautiful exchange that can happen between us and Jesus. Coming to Jesus is our first step and surrendering our burdens to him is the next. The way this exchange works is that we carry burdens by carrying them to Jesus, the only one sufficient to help in the midst of pain. We cannot be free and hope if we still carry around other people burdens as well as our own.

So, wherever you are today, your next step is to surrender your burdens.
